Design for any device.

SV 650 racebike

I'm a creative geek at heart, and a perennial autodidact, with a B.S. degree in computer science. I specialize in simple, effective web design solutions. My focus is solving business problems. I use information architecture, content strategy, and creative direction to create a successful project, improve user experience, and fulfill business goals.

Preferred project type.

I enjoy working with kind, friendly, intelligent people who understand the value in knowledge and quality.

My clients are located globally.

With Google Hangouts, Skype, chat and email, meeting in person isn't required. I do enjoy a conversation over coffee though, so if you're local, there's a chance we'll converse at one of the downtown independent shops...or, we could just have a cup together on Hangouts.

Why work with me as a one-person studio?

I'm multifarious, and my clients are looking for a small, skilled outfit for a more personable experience with a possible long-term relationship.

I love solving problems.

I build strategic websites that fulfill business goals and are easy to manage.

Strategy & Consulting

A successful website is more than just web design. Effective design is about a set of decisions, solving problems and measuring objectives. To help you achieve your business goals and the goals of your target audience, I offer consulting in information architecture, content strategy, user experience and social media.

Web Design & Development

I craft beautiful, user-centered websites from concept to launch, and offer development for a range of areas for existing websites. I use the HTML5 Boilerplate and Foundation to create advanced and adaptable websites, and Git for revision control to manage changes and iterations.

Website Management

I can help you manage your existing website. I offer custom website retainers to suit your business needs, which can include a long-term roadmap for development. The most effective websites are those that are consistently monitored, tested and improved iteratively.

web design strategy

I work with smart people.

I solve business problems, and I don't need special care. My clients understand the value of my knowledge and expertise, and are looking for a professional to help them reach their objectives.

Local Do-Gooders

Artists, caretakers of the earth, supporters of social and economic stewardship and human rights; I love you. Your projects to save the world inspire me, and I want to help.

Startups & Small Businesses

I like helping kind people, with good ideas, succeed with their goals. Businesses with a social conscious are a plus.

Savvy Animal Rescues

Good animal stewardship reflects the true heart of humanity, where respect and kindness towards animals translate to our interpersonal relationships. Working with smart non-profits is exceptionally rewarding for me, and something I'm passionate about.

The way the process works.

My creative process is focused on a continued partnership where you and I work towards a common goal. While the work I do is strategic, building a successful website is a collaborative effort. Your critique is the beginning of a discussion; it ensures that I have the knowledge and insight that I need to make good design decisions.

1

Getting to Know Each Other

(hello and the project plan)

Design is about a set of decisions and solving problems. For it to be effective, collaboration between the you and me is required. The first step in our relationship is to learn about you. It would be nice to meet over coffee, but video chat will satisfy where there's a difference in locale. I'll start the design process by understanding your business, your objectives, and the goals of your audience. We'll work on the following: Project Planner, Proposal and Contract, Project Timeline.

2

Strategy and Wireframing

(architectural blueprints)

Effective web design requires an identified information architecture based on the site's goals, your objectives, and the goals of your target audience. Wireframes bring focus to these factors. They are basic guides to suggest your site's structure. We'll hold collaborative discussions where we work out the layout, page flow, information hierarchies, calls to action and interactions of the website which will then be reflected in the wireframes to create a solid foundation of what your site will become.

3

Design

(style tiles)

Next, I'll create style tiles to identify a design direction and provide a catalyst for discussions around your preferences and goals. Style tiles help establish a common visual language and are combined examples of stylistic interface elements and components like typography, patterns, color palette and imagery that provide a sense of the design's atmosphere or mood, and communicate the essence of a visual, digital brand. They don't imply dimensions nor device. Making changes to style tiles allows me to work faster, and is a simpler, more direct way of refining a design.

4

Build and Code

(develop and implement)

At this point in our collaborative efforts there should be no surprises. The architecture, objectives and priorities for each page, and style of the site have already been established. Now, I start building your website; implementing the design and page layouts by utilizing the information collected from earlier stages in the project. I'll also set up the content management system and integrate e-commerce solutions or add-on or third party applications, if your project requires any.

5

Launch and Grow

(evaluate, iterate and evolve)

After your website is launched, I'm still here for you when you need me, and we can evolve (or iterate) your website as your business grows and your needs change. Since design is judged by the results it causes in human behavior, we'll measure the performance of your design, and refine your website to increase its success. The most effective websites have a long-term roadmap, and are consistently monitored, tested and improved iteratively.
