The contrast between the ginger tabby's low, careful stride and the spacesuit harness it wears, with a blue-green oxygen pack and a yellow helmet collar but no helmet, captures an explorer still becoming, reflecting the quiet purpose of a life in transition. Cat Becoming follows the tabby across pale sand toward faint blue shapes on the far horizon, offering an ordinary walk as one stage of a longer journey.

I completed this piece in acrylic on Yupo paper in May 2024. Squash, my cat, was the tiny heartbeat of every one of my Cats in Orbit paintings.
