Dissolution
Oil on gallery canvas. Varnished. Unframed with hardware.
Purchase at GalleryI began creating the paintings for the exhibit, DISSOLUTION, long before my anticipated loss, changing the name and the storytelling of the exhibit's final form as the loss transpired. The works symbolize pieces of me in a storyline of love and pain. They are fragments of grief personified. Memories conflated from a life once lived, a life in dissolution.
The process for this painting started a few years before the exhibit. I captured a specific gesture where Ziggy is looking at me and he really sees me. It is organic in its large brush strokes and shapes. I had every intention to polish the face a bit more, but it never felt right. When he died, I didn't touch it again. It's final form had concluded.
