Fissure
Painting Specifications
Oil on gallery canvas with aluminum stretcher bars. Varnished. Unframed with hardware. Ready to hang.
"Fissure" is a monumental 64 x 36 inch oil on gallery canvas, one of the largest paintings in my body of work. Part of the Dissolution series exploring grief and memory, the title references the cracks that form in identity after profound loss. The painting was exhibited alongside works from the same series at Abend Gallery in Denver, Colorado during my solo exhibition.
For the love in September. Autumn Ascending.
The cooler days of September carry a melancholic weight, signaling the fissure of seasons. Leaves begin to change, trees prepare to release their hold in October, a yearly reminder of his death. This year marks the fifth anniversary of losing my horse, Ziggy, and a large painting has been consuming my thoughts, spiraling me down a rabbit hole of 18 years of memories: revisiting paintings, photos, songs, lyrics, audio.
And so the crying begins. Grief keeps its own calendar, and September always turns the page.
