"Love and Grief" pairs two inseparable experiences in a single oil painting on gallery panel. This work belongs to the earliest phase of the Dissolution series, when Langdale was processing profound personal loss through paint. The title states directly what many of the other works in the series approach obliquely, that love and grief are not opposites but companions.
